Installing Your Meta Pixel On Shopify

Installing a Meta pixel on your Shopify site is an important step to ensure your business is tracking events on-site such as conversions, add-to carts, and page views.

Even before you begin running paid ads as a business, having a pixel installed will be useful to collect customer behavior. This will give you a foundation and starting point when/if you do begin running paid ads, allowing for the advertising platforms to better serve your ads. We recommend installing pixels for all the main advertising platforms you would see yourself using in order to track events on site.

  1. Create a Facebook Pixel:
  • If you haven't already, create a Facebook Pixel in your Facebook Ads Manager. Go to "Events Manager" > "Pixels" and click on "Create a Pixel." Follow the prompts to set up your new pixel.

  1. Copy the Pixel ID:
  • After creating the pixel, you'll be provided with a unique Pixel ID. It's a series of numbers and letters. Copy this ID as you'll need it for the installation.
  1. Access Your Shopify Admin:
  • Log in to your Shopify store admin using your credentials.
  1. Go to "Online Store" > "Preferences":
  • From the Shopify admin, navigate to "Online Store" and then select "Preferences."
  1. Scroll Down to the Facebook Pixel Section:
  • In the "Preferences" section, scroll down until you find the "Facebook Pixel" box.
  1. Enter Your Pixel ID:
  • In the "Facebook Pixel" box, paste the Facebook Pixel ID that you copied in step 2.
  1. Enable Automatic Advanced Matching (Optional):
  • Shopify offers an option to enable Automatic Advanced Matching, which can improve the accuracy of the data sent to Facebook. You can enable this option by checking the corresponding box.
  1. Save Your Changes:
  • Once you have pasted your Facebook Pixel ID and made any other desired adjustments, click on the "Save" button to apply the changes.
  1. Verify Pixel Installation (Optional):
  • It's a good practice to verify that your Facebook Pixel is installed correctly. You can do this using the Facebook Pixel Helper browser extension. Install the extension on your web browser, navigate to your Shopify store, and check if the Pixel Helper detects your pixel firing.
  1. Test the Pixel Events (Optional):
  • You can also test whether the pixel is tracking events correctly. Perform actions like adding a product to the cart, initiating checkout, or making a purchase. Then, go to your Facebook Ads Manager and access the "Events Manager" to check if the corresponding events are being tracked.

Once this is completed your pixel will start tracking events on-site!
